Advice to make sure that you set and achieve personal goals and objectives now seems to come from almost every quarter. The encouragement of goals or objectives at School, College, Work, in sport and recreation, and in even in retirement means that this is now seen as a 'life long' need to be able to be successful, or at least to achieve progress in some way, shape or form. However, perhaps ironically, this widespread call for goal-setting effort as a means to achieving success doesn't mean that the activity is either widely practiced at all or to the satisfaction of those that do engage in the process to some extent.

Our aim in the first section of this module is to address this "gap" between the generally supported views about the value of personal goal-setting and the generally very poor opinions that people have about following and achieving their goals in practice.

In the second section of this module, we will be looking at how good personal goal or objective setting practice can help us to focus on particular behaviours and competencies (of our choosing) that we wish to develop. We will also look in this second section at how we can better manage our medium to long term career in the workplace (including how we can optimise our chances of achieving the career goals that we elect to set ourselves.

It is highly recommended that participants take the Goal Setting Style Profile in conjunction with this course.
